The new kiosk solution (tablet inside the reception) means that all businesses using Digitoll can potentially avoid manual processing in the customs station.
How it works:
The new kiosk solution will provide the Larvik customs station with a simple digital solution designed to simplify the administration of transports, provide quick feedback, and offer an alternative to manual processing. The solution only requires the registration number of the vehicle. Once this is entered, the user will answer two simple questions, and either receive a green or red directing signal. A green signal means everything is in order and the driver can proceed, while a red signal means the user must join the dedicated Digitoll queue in the custom station for manual processing.
Who can use it and how?
All drivers with a transport registered inDigitoll can use the solution. If your business is not using Digitoll, the business must register and start adapting to Digitoll. See the website Toll.no for more information on this.
Reducing processing and stop times the border station
Since direct transport scheme is being phased out, the average processing time at the Larvik customs station will increase unless the majority of transports have transitioned to pre-submitted information. The border crossing solution aims to reduce processing and stop times for both drivers and customs officers.
What are the feedback on the solution?
There has been a lot of positive feedback on the kiosk solution. Feedback includes that it saves a lot of time for drivers and employees. Observations and measurements at the Hjortnes customs station indicates that drivers who get a "green light" often save 15-20 minutes. This data is based on most kiosk solution users taking 1-3 minutes, while those manually processed sometimes must wait up to an hour. There has also been feedback that the solution is intuitive and easy to use.
However, we have received feedback that some users of the kiosk solution are not prioritized in the Digitoll queue if they get a red signal on the tablet. This is something we are working to improve, with Larvik being the first location where Digitoll users have their own prioritized queue.
Norwegian Customs is working to expand the kiosk solution to more customs locations, although exact dates are not yet confirmed.
