TIR - Transports Internationaux Routiers

The Customs Convention on the International Transport of Goods under Cover of TIR Carnets (TIR Convention, 1975) is an international transport conventions and is so far the only universal Customs transit system in existence. To date, it has 77 Contracting Parties, including the European Union.

Note: An update of this article is pending. Please note that some terms and/or references may differ from the Movement of Goods Act and the Customs Duty Act that enters into force from the 1st of January 2023.

It covers the whole of Europe and reaches out to North Africa and the Near and Middle East. More than 33,000 operators are authorized to use the TIR system and around 1 million TIR transports are carried out per year, according to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
