Importation of medicines and herbs

If you want to import medicines and herbs, you must have a permit from the Norwegian Medicines Agency.

Note: An update of this article is pending. Please note that some terms and/or references may differ from the Movement of Goods Act and the Customs Duty Act that enters into force from the 1st of January 2023.

There are different rules for importation, depending on whether the goods are considered a medicine, doping substance or dietary supplement. Many goods are sold as a dietary supplement abroad, but are considered a medicine or doping substance in Norway.

It is the classification of the goods based on Norwegian law that is decisive, not how they are classified in the consignor country.

Note that the import of radioactive medicine products requires entry clearance from the Norwegian Radiation Protection Authority.
