Agricultural machinery and tools

Used machinery and tools shall be cleaned before they are imported.

Note: An update of this article is pending. Please note that some terms and/or references may differ from the Movement of Goods Act and the Customs Duty Act that enters into force from the 1st of January 2023.

Used machinery and tools that are imported for agricultural, forestry or horticultural purposes, shall be cleaned thoroughly and possibly disinfected. They shall be free of soil, plant matter and plant pests.

When they are cleared for free circulation a phytosanitary certificate shall be available, certified by the plant inspectorate or other public agricultural authority in the export country.

The same requirement applies to used empty packaging that is to be used for plants and parts of plants.

If you do not have such certified documentation, you cannot import the goods. You can apply to the Norwegian Food Safety Authority for dispensation, i.e. that the goods can be cleaned prior to crossing the border.
